About Amy

Amy Feigel is a Virginia Licensed Professional Counselor and former California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Amy received her pre and post-graduate education from Liberty University and has nearly 20 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families.

She has served as a Social Worker for Child Protective Services, a Group Facilitator working with sexual abuse survivors through Parents United International, a Mental Health Clinician providing outpatient counseling for at-risk youth, the Director of Member Care for the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), the Director of the Extraordinary Women organization and as a private practice therapist. Amy is currently employed full-time as a therapist at Light Counseling, part-time as an Adjunct Faculty Professor with Liberty University Online, and is also a Special Assistant to the President of the AACC.

As a past recipient of the Servant Leadership Award from the IBPPC, Amy has experience in conducting numerous workshops that provide local communities with mental health education, in-service psycho-education to teaching professionals, and continuing education training for members of the AACC on a variety of topics such as: eating disorders, teen suicide/cutting/self-injury/physical and sexual abuse/depression, anxiety/stress, women’s issues, social networking, and the online generation.

About Dan

Daniel Sullivan is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been working in the Lynchburg, VA area since 1999.  Daniel earned his bachelor’s degree from Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in Wilson, NC, and his master’s degree from Liberty University.  He also has 3 years of advanced training in Strategic Family Therapy and has experience dealing with a variety of individual issues including autism spectrum disorders. 

Prior to becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor, he worked as a CPS investigator for NC. Dept. of Social Services and as a Production Trainer in a sheltered workshop for adults with a variety of disabilities.  Daniel is the father of 7 grown children and has been married for over 3 decades.  He enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, swimming, weight lifting, cycling; essentially most physical activities especially if outside.  Daniel is originally from New Jersey but decided to relocate South while attending college.

About Doris

Dr. Doris DeMato brings over twenty years of experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor to Light Counseling. She earned her doctoral degree in counseling from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA.

She has extensive experience working with anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Many of Dr. DeMato’s clients navigate feelings of stress, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, phase of life problems, interpersonal conflicts, and family of origin concerns that have become overwhelming and are impacting work and relationships. Together, she and her clients co-create practical strategies and coping skills that are tailored to each one’s life journey. Dr. DeMato works with adults of all ages across the life-span.

The first priority Dr. DeMato has in starting with new clients is to ensure that they feel safe, heard, and like an equal partner in the therapeutic process. As a seasoned telehealth provider, she also offers the convenience of remote sessions to help make therapy a core component of one’s self-care calendar. The therapeutic approach Dr. DeMato takes with her clients is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This is a proven approach to changing thinking patterns and behaviors in a limited number of sessions.

An experienced clinician, Dr. DeMato also is a counselor educator. In a recent interview, she was invited to share her approach to treating women with anxiety that will be included in a video to accompany a college textbook. She also holds a Postgraduate Professional License in Virginia as a school counselor. Dr. DeMato has had articles published in both the Professional School Counseling journal and the Virginia Counselors journal. Some of her interests outside of work include visiting historical sites, watching archeological digs near where she lives, reading mystery novels and biographies, growing hydroponic herbs and vegetables, cooking, and walking. Dr. DeMato is very active in her church which has a homeless shelter, food program, and an emergency relief program.

Dr. DeMato believes that healing and growth occur within a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. Taking the first step to come for counseling is a step of strength and courage. Dr. DeMato looks forward to meeting you and working together to help you resolve whatever you may be facing in your life at this time.

About Elaine

Elaine is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 20 years of experience in the mental health field. She desires to bring hope and healing to individuals who are hurting
from life’s difficulties. She enjoys helping people with relationship challenges, codependency issues, anxiety, trauma, and problems caused by childhood wounds.

Elaine has been trained by relationship coach and author/speaker, Leslie Vernick, to work with women who have been impacted by emotionally destructive relationships. She also specializes in helping women heal from the wounds of sexual betrayal, including pornography and emotional affairs. Another one of her passions is working with the challenges that frequently occur between parents and their adult children.

Elaine can often be found walking or hiking on one of the many trails around Central Virginia. Her favorite place to walk is at the beach and she has been known to walk for hours along the coast. She values good self-care, building strong connections with others, and believes we are never too old to make positive changes in our life.

About Fern

Fern received her Masters in Counseling from Trevecca Nazarene University and frequently works with people who are experiencing struggles with sexual addiction, anxiety, depression), relationship difficulties, spiritual issues, and low self-esteem or lack of personal direction.

Her passion is to empower her clients with knowledge and skills that will allow them to find long-term success and healing. Fern embraces an eclectic approach to counseling that includes Cognitive Behavioral, Existential, Solution Focused, Motivational Interviewing and Gestalt Therapeutic techniques. In addition to counseling, Fern loves teaching as an Adjunct Professor and leading workshops.

Fern often works with clients who feel “stuck” or hopeless in life and have difficulty finding healthy ways of opening up or expressing how they feel.

Fern is married and has two adult daughters and five delightful grandchildren. She enjoys being outdoors, loves the beach, chocolate, reading, and time with family and friends.

About Jessica

Jessica was born and raised in West Virginia and moved to Virginia to pursue her education at Liberty University, where she completed a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling in 2012. After completing her degree, she has worked in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Through her work at the hospital, she has worked with children, adolescents, and families utilizing a variety of methods. In 2021, Jessica completed her residency and earned her LPC licensure.

One of the things for which Jessica is most passionate is helping others to recognize their God-given value and the restoration of joy. She loves to provide a listening ear to those struggling and often utilizes goal setting and achievement as a part of her treatment. Jessica has experience working with a variety of topics including anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicide, mood disorders, anger management, parenting issues and more.

Jessica’s priority in life is her relationship with the Lord. Also of great importance, however, is her family. She has been happily married for 10 years and has four young children. She finds joy in educating her children, being involved in the local church, reading, enjoying a good cup of coffee, and spending time with her family.

About Lynnette

Lynnette has worked at Light Counseling since March 1999 where she served as the Executive Director until she and her husband moved to Lexington Kentucky. She continues to work full-time for Light Counseling by providing telehealth services and considers this “the best of both worlds” since she can live near family and still work for the counseling practice that she loves! 

Her clinical areas of practice include adults, adolescents, and college-age individuals. Her main focus is on women’s issues, codependency issues, marriage counseling, and family conflict resolution. She treats a wide variety of clinical problems, including depression, anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, grief, and phase of life issues. Her therapeutic approach is insight-oriented, cognitive-behavioral, along with family systems, with a biblical perspective. In 2017, 2018, and 2019 Lynnette was voted number one Counselor in Lynchburg in Our Health magazine’s “Best Bedside Manner” edition, which she counts among the greatest honors of her career.  

As a former basketball player at the University of Kentucky, she and her husband are now season ticket holders and enjoy attending the games at her beloved alma mater. She also has one cat and one dog and is a big animal lover!
