Valerie Storm
Valerie is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of California. She received her MA in Psychology from California Southern University, graduating Magna Cum Laude and her BS in Psychology from Liberty University. She has had 10 years of experience working at a non-profit Christian counseling center, as well as experience working at residential treatment facilities, treating eating disorders in women and adolescents. In 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4, it encourages the believer to comfort others who are in any trouble by the comfort we have received ourselves from God. This has become Valerie’s prayer, that as Christ has healed and comforted her, that she would be a tool of comfort and support to others in their season of tribulation, to walk with them as Christ heals and sets them free.
Her clinical areas of practice include working with children, teens, women, couples and families. Her areas of treatment focus include: depression; anxiety/panic disorders; life adjustments; disability, chronic or terminal illness and also working with those who care, support or are impacted by a disabled or ill loved one; grief; Acute and Post Traumatic Stress; eating disorders; stress management; emotional identification, validation, regulation and what to do with it all; self-esteem/self-worth issues; relationship dynamics; and walking with a client in their spiritual desire for growth or where one has concerns, struggles, church hurt or anger towards God. She has also had the opportunity to facilitate therapeutic groups focusing on specific Dialectical Behavioral skills, Shame Resilience, and process groups for women and adolescents battling eating disorders.
Her therapeutic style utilizes an empathic, insight-oriented stance, employing CBT, DBT, Narrative Therapy, psychodynamics, Family systems, and utilizes the love, truth, comfort and wisdom that come from the Word of God. Valerie focuses on meeting each individual where they are and helping them see their value, worth, and anointed purpose.
Valerie is very active in her church and community, leading worship, working with the children, and visiting individuals in convalescent hospitals, nursing homes and Alzheimer’s facilities. In her free time, Valerie enjoys being outdoors, reading, playing her flute, playing sports, and spending time with family and friends.
She prays that with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the tools gained through her education, she can help those that come to Light Counseling+ to obtain healing, peace, and transformation in the love of Christ. Prayerfully, this opportunity will be one of growth and blessings!
