Joan Reece, MA, Resident in Counseling

My name is Joannie Reece, a licensed resident in counseling, who graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Master of Education in Counselor Education from VCU. As an elementary school counselor, I have had the privilege of walking with children and their families during difficult seasons of life for the past nineteen years. I have successfully used trauma informed strategies, cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT), grief counseling, and interpersonal and solution focused therapies to facilitate change. My attachment based, humanistic approach provides a safe, nonjudgmental environment to overcome trauma, anxiety, depression, loss, and anger, to navigate life transitions and resolve relationship conflicts. In my free time I love to be outdoors biking, camping, gardening, and trying to train my goldendoodle. My husband and three grown children, as well as a new granddaughter are the loves of my life. I am no stranger, however, to loss. The Bible says, “We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). I believe this with my whole heart. Whether you have children aged 5-18, are a young adult, in midlife, or are a senior adult, I would be honored to join your journey towards wholeness, as we embrace the healing love of Jesus Christ.
