What is Individual Therapy?

Individual therapy (sometimes called “psychotherapy” or “counseling”) is a type of therapy that aims to help individuals who are dealing with mental health, relationship, and/or life transition issues. This can include various mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and more.

Individual counseling aims to help people develop coping skills, overcome challenges, improve mental health, and boost overall well-being. One of our Christian counselors near you will work with you to identify the root cause of your issues and develop a personalized treatment plan.

How Can Individual Christian Counseling Services Help Me?

Whether you’re in crisis or looking to help a loved one find the help they need, individual counseling can help in several ways. No matter what you are feeling, you’re not alone – and no matter who you are, our counseling services can help.

More than 1 in 5 adults live with some form of mental illness, and roughly 1 in 25 American adults have a serious mental illness.* Studies have shown that individual psychotherapy offers clear benefits not experienced by people who don’t receive counseling.** Our therapists can help with various mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and trauma.

Here are just a few of the Christian counseling services we offer:

Depression Counseling

You’re not alone if you’re battling a seemingly unstoppable wave of circular, destructive thoughts that make you feel hopeless and tired. Our therapists are licensed professionals trained to identify and treat depression, and with their help, you can end the cycle of toxic thoughts and break free from the sadness that has loomed over you.

Anxiety Counseling

Individual counseling is a great way to overcome anxiety. If you constantly feel restless, on edge, and trapped in a daily state of worry, you’re not alone – and our team has years of experience helping people overcome the chest-tightening feeling that follows you around at work, school, and in your own home. Our counselors have years of experience helping people like you overcome anxiety’s grip. Schedule an appointment today and start your journey to an anxiety-free life.

Trauma and PTSD Counseling

In addition, our counselors can help you overcome past trauma. If you feel exhausted, confused, anxious, restless, angry, or troubled by something that happened to you, be encouraged – there is hope, and you are not defined by trauma. Building a relationship with one of our counselors can help you recover, heal, and confidently move forward with purpose and peace.

Addiction Counseling

Addiction comes in many forms – be it to sex, alcohol, drugs, pornography, work, or something else. Maybe you realize you have an addiction, you’ve sworn you would stop repeatedly, and you’ve had little success kicking the habit. On the other hand, perhaps you’re researching on behalf of someone you love with an addiction. Either way, our team of caring and experienced counselors can help.

Life Transition Counseling

Originally founded to serve a college population, our passion for helping people with stage-of-life questions remains. If you’re a young person, you may wrestle with questions like “Who am I?”, “Why am I here?”, “What’s my purpose?” and “How do I relate to my parents as an adult?”. If you’re middle-aged, you may struggle to grasp how fast your children have grown up. If you’re a senior, perhaps you’re dealing with the challenges of age. Change is a certainty in life – and at Light Counseling, we stand ready to help you process any life transition you may be dealing with.
